If you’re feeling stuck, disempowered, or like your career is not aligning with your life’s purpose, it may be time to take a look at how you are manifesting the life and career you want. Spoiler: it all starts with personal branding. When done correctly, personal branding can help you find internal alignment within before communicating your values, who you are, and most importantly who you envision becoming externally. It can help you build brand equity and garner relationship capital that will develop long-term, sustainable growth.
What is Personal Branding?
Personal branding is about claiming ownership of who you are and what makes you unique. It’s about bringing out your authentic self and expressing it through strategic thought leadership, content creation, press features, speaking engagements, earned media and more. As a yogi & meditation teacher, the philosophy I am guided by is rooted in mindfulness in order to listen to insights from within. This allows you to take your power back in both work and life, and when designed with intention, personal branding helps make room for the life-shifts that need to happen in order to move forward on one’s desired path.
Achieving this requires a conscious approach – one which involves building relationships with people who support the same values as yours, creating content that speaks volumes of those values, allowing yourself to explore different tactics in your own storytelling, as well as through an attractive brand positioning. What is the juiciest, most unique thing about you that shows the world who you are?
Be yourself; everyone else is already taken. – Oscar Wilde
Ultimately what developing a personal brand translates to over time is more revenue (whether that be in the form of your salary increasing or your own business growing) that just feels so darn good because it’s created in harmony – from the intentions and seeds that you plant. See how important the “getting to know thyself” bit is?
How Can I Start?
There are many strategies and tactics that you can employ to manifest the life you want through effective personal branding. In this article I’ll focus on two biggies:
The first step towards successful personal branding is to establish a baseline brand foundation – you can do this by asking yourself the following questions and creating what I call an authentic expression:
- What are 3 adjectives that best describe me?
- What are my top 5 core values?
- What are my most authentic interests?
- What are my top skills?
- What cause am I drawn to and care about (i..e – gender equality, climate change, etc.)?
The second step towards successful personal branding is creating your voice – create a media plan for yourself by establishing goals for social media engagement, networking opportunities, or other public relations efforts. Content creation should be intentional and strategic, keeping your audience informed, engaged, and entertained (maintaining attention is hard work these days)! Here are some tips on how to get it right:
- Use language that resonates with others while staying true to yourself
- Create visual assets that speak for themselves (I looooove Canva for this)
- Tell stories of success but also challenges faced along the way; this normalizes and humanizes you which makes you more relatable and trustworthy
- Listen to feedback and learn from mistakes without letting them define who you are
- Connect with influencers and leaders in your field online but also offline
- Stay true to your authentic self so others know exactly where they stand with you – through good times and bad
Conclusion:
Manifesting the life we want takes dedication and commitment. With effective personal branding strategies in place, we can take our power back in terms of both work-life balance as well as a tripple bottom line approach amongst people, planet, and prosperity. Establishing our own voice allows us to communicate our values externally while staying true to ourselves internally – this helps us build real relationships with those around us while promoting sustainable growth over time. When done correctly, personal branding creates an attractive package tailored specifically for each individual – one which allows them to strive towards their goals while living their best lives possible! What better way is there of manifesting the life we want than by creating our own unique brand?
