Staying at the Masseria Mozzone in Puglia

Italy

An ideal mix of value, comfort and convenience, Masseria Mozzone offers a rustic and authentic Puglian experience with some of the most chill, kind owners I’ve ever met. I came through here by myself and spent the night before moving on in my travels. I was attracted to the Masseria for its simple style and eco-friendly operation – and felt welcomed into this space immediately.

A Masseria is a traditional Puglian farm home. Many have been converted to stunning properties that now welcome guests to the slow, Puglian farm stay life. Hands down, one of my favorite ways to holiday in Italy.

Masseria Mozzone is an authentic 700’ Masseria, surrounded by the distinctive Trulli. The atmosphere is familiar and informal, perfect for those in search of a friendly environment to stay in. The owners are always there to help, but they are never obtrusive. With its simple and minimal furniture, the Masseria is the right place for an authentic Puglian experience and for those who are seeking simple things!

What I love about Masserias and similar properties is the “Agritourismo” aka Agriculture Tourism approach they employ. It’s no surprise that being in Italy, food is everything. Masserias and farm stays alike are notorious for their attention to the culinary aspect of the experience. From waking up with the perfect cafe to the simple yet crazy delicious lunches and dinners, you know for a fact you will eat well when you stay at a place like this.

Everything is organic, and the operation is inherently sustainable.

Masseria Mozzone is romantic without being in your face; it’s pure and of the earth; not to mention delicious.  Guest rooms are super cute mini Trulli (the traditional Puglian homes that look like tiny Pyramids). They offer amenities such as air conditioning, and guests can go online with free wifi offered by the bed and breakfast.

The Masseria features a chapel, which makes it a popular wedding destination as well. Also a picnic area, and outdoor furniture, to help make your stay more enjoyable, a lounge, and area full of hammocks, and plenty of land to walk around and gawk at the olive trees!

Their commitment to producing olive oil is pretty rad – when I was there they hosted a walk around the property to look at the olive trees and about 50 Italians showed up for the experience! After our long walk around in nature, we were welcomed back to the Masseria for a FEAST – I’m talking plates on plates of delicious cheese, so many yummy veggies, and other super fresh items you can only find in Puglia. It was total insanity and I loved every minute of it.

If you are driving to Masseria Mozzone, there is free private parking available nearby and / or can likely park in the main area. The owners are very cool, and very go with the flow. And, if you are craving some ocean time, the beach is about 45 minutes away. Plus, the town of Alberobello is nearly but I don’t suggest you go in high-season – it’s full of tourists and is a bit sad.

Sustainable practices:

  • All food prepared on site with a whole lot of love!
  • Produce their own bespoke olive oil straight from the trees on the property
  • Rooms are traditional trulli style structures that honor Puglian culture
  • Slow life is encouraged; this is a great place for a digital detox!
  • Produce their own Puglian style pasta using a very specific type of flour
  • Agriculture Tourism approach whereby their agriculturally-based operation offers guests a true Italian farm experience!
